Had just been to this lame Aktharnama a week or two back. It was a movie of struggling stars in the B town loking for opportunities to bloom! The movie was not worth sitting for two odd hours, but was surely coming with a message.
Not just in the B town, even the whole world works by chance. Companies win contracts by chance, people get opportunities by chance, people lose opportunities by chance.
But some people just live by chance!

Slumdog for the S/W Industry
Millionaire is making money world wide and has gained fame for portraying the negatives of the Indian poor. Was wondering if, by producing a sequel for the software industry, we might be able to mint money!
The story line can be similar, but you can have a manager talking to a resource, presumably whose career/ life got screwed by entering into the industry dreaming of his past and seeking answers for his appraisal!
Brickbats welcome, I am sure none of my managers understand my comic sense nor have the capabilities to understand my blogs, nor will read it as they are presumably too busy just delegating work to others!

Dilli Six'ed
All along the past few month's, I was wondering why the movie has a number next to it! Finally today was enlightened on the rusty seats of Sterling that its the post code for Chandni Chowk area.
Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra had hit a sixer in his first venture, Rang De Basanti. His second venture though seems to be missing the boundary line just by a few yards, not a bad effort though! Dilli Six revolves around the streets of Chandni Chowk with probably just a peek into San Fransico and Agra and fares well probably in keeping you glued to your seat for two odd hours.
The story, if you ask me takes off from where SRK left in Swades, but to a more urbanized locale than the rural picture portrayed there. Abhishek has performed well in the movie and the cute Sonam Kapoor has a point to prove that she can have others run for their money (Beware Anil Kapoor ;))! OmPuri is at his classic best as usual and the normal aunties, uncles, grannies, untouchables etc... make the dish more sweeter. The movie revolves and does not focus just on any theme unlike several other movies do. There is a Ram Leela, the usual communal divide, the good old Rishi Kapoor love story, the swadesi sentiments all together knit well and to perfection.
Probably the only thing that seemed out of the world to me is the Monkey Man of Delhi! A little bit too much of masala to handle. And the protrayal of Big B in the end, seemed unnecessary though! The movie runs quite well except for the last ten to fifteen minutes, where Mehra forgets what logic means, just to keep the gals watching the movie on their toes for the sake of Junior B staying alive!
Not a right movie to see over the weekend though! Especially since I need to catch my BA flight right out of Bengaluru soon. My swadesi instincts are tickling, but work is at least calling for the next two to three months, then on i am back at my "Mysore 16 ;)".
Straight out of my heart I would give a standing ovation to the photography of Dili 6, its amazing and great work. Good effort again from Mehra and team and hopefuly Dilli 6 lands in the right post box!

Slumdog Millionaire
Well! Apologies for the delays and for being off for this long! My slumdog manager (No offense meant to anyone) had ensure I have almost got a twenty hour a day work schedule! More on my slumdog story at the end of this blog!
Well coming to the actual stuff, watched the much hyped Slumdog Millionaire/ Crorepati just because of the word of mouth popularity and believe me to the fullest, I was not enthralled by the show just as may be the rest of the world was!
The music was mediocre, just one Jai Ho! song was okay, there have been better deliveries from the legend A R Rahman himself in his earlier compositions! The TV shows in India are still running the campgain supporting Slumdog for the Oscars, but I personally feel there were better options.
Coming to the acting skill, there was nothing to act there! Even a kid watching Big B on Siddarth Basu's KBC can enact Amithabh. Coming to the child actors, they were paid, they acted, for some of them, believe it was routine life. The young actors seriously did not have much to act there. Coming toIrfaan Khaan. OMG!! It was probably his most mediocre performance. He is a class actor and can to much better than making a subordinate call someone - the bitch from the slum!
Overall, the movie portrayed negatives and had more negatives over life in India than positives. The lives of the slum was portrayed very negatively and the communal divide overexposed. Believe there had to be a curb on the way the life has been portrayed at least for the sake of the nation!

Back to Basics?
Well, when I was in school (viz.. CFTRI, Teresian, Mariz) my teachers taught me in almost every class that the best way to prevent soil erosion is to grow GRASS....
The government and the governors of our local bodies, probably need to re-visit the schools to learn this. I see almost every road asphalted and in places of footpath's they leave the soil exposed! This is no way to build a city. At least they can have some common sense to grow grass on these exposed areas uniformly. This will not only reduce erosion but also beautify the city!
Another thing, I learnt in each of my social sciences classes is that we need to prevent air pollution. Its Diwali today! Though the quantum of crackers burst have reduced, I still fear we are contributing a lot to sound and air pollution! We need to stop this. Hundreds of four legged beasts survive these four days of Diwali with utmost fear. Wake up people! Protect your environment! Its high time!
I vote for a green, clean and safe diwali! I hope you too do!

Bored!
Watched quite a few movies over the past two to three weeks and none of them were worth even a review from my point of view. Firstly had a look at two latest Kannada releases, Buddivantha and Vamshi, both were just pure mass entertainers and nothing to take away! Was just overwhelmed with the packed crowd at sangam for Uppi's Buddivantha! Vamshi was OK... Nothing great. Plain and simple :)
Watched Imran Khan's much hyped kidnap! Well two things.. Firstlt the movie had a bad base, looks like it was filmed unplanned or the kidnap was too native in ideas! and lastly I am still finding out why the heroine's mom is more younger than the heroine.
Bilmey if more such movies are coming on :) I will have more blogs with the same title!

A Wednesday!
Well its Sunday and quite a few days since I watched A Wednesday! Really a great movie to watch. Time and again veteran actors like Anupam Kher and Naserruddin Shah have proved that they can act to perfection given great scripts and they have not faltered again.
The movie is excellent and does not slip even at one place. Clearly echoes the sentiments of me, you or any average Indian going through the life of a Metro under threat.
One word I have is that we must all stop watching the stupid polls on the news channels, and watch this movie. Who cares knowing 81% of Indians of a crappy survey of just 1428 people are scared. Watch this movie and tell who is not worried and scared of whats happening nowadays.
Rajdeep, you need to learn something from this movie leaving all the surveys behind for something, at least once listen to what Rajeev Masand says ;)

Auto-Magic!
You are brave, You are rich... Well that's what I can tell if you are traveling in auto rickshaws in Bangalore. Either you are super rich or dont give a damn for the money :)
Last week I had to travel to office thrice by Auto as I missed the 8AM 63 from VJN. Believe me 3 out of 4 autos said they wont come to the city center and demanded 80-100 bucks right in the morning!!! Well in the end I had to cough up 70 bucks for an auto with a faulty meter though! Who cares for the law - this is India!
Come evening its still horrible. You either need to leave office at half past five or cough up a huge sum just to travel over 8 kilometers! and listen to all unnecessary gaali's :(. Why can we all not use auto rickshaws for a day and teach those buggers a lesson?
Yesterday I had to travel to Mysore by the 6:15 train, for a distance of 3kms, autos asked for as much as 100 bucks! Given my principles I said **** off guys and settled for the good old BMTC, to land in majestic at half past six, to travel by a volvo paying 225 bucks!!! (The good old Chamundi Express just costs my 43 bucks + auto). All for a lousy half litre packaged drinking water bottle.

- Report autos with faulty meter to the nearest police and make them take action. Meters have magic in them and they run faster than Tyson Gay!
- Avoid these buggers unless its an emergency. BMTC has better Suvarna and Vajra services now a days
- Stop sympathising with them, they are the rule breakers and they are the traffic blockers. Have autos off the road!!!
- Avoid autos emitting excess smoke!
Another Weekend!!!
Another great weekend! For just one reason I love these weekends - I am away from Bangalore - the city of gardens (er... read garbage, nowadays). It gives me a great pleasure to talk of the city of my birth. Of course, I am criticized by almost everyone for enforcing Brand Mysooru forcefully on them!!!
Mysore is fast changing. Had gone to meet good old Shiva, bilmey it took two hours to return back home!!! Well I presumed its because of the so called Dusshera rush! I am back now to the pristine ring road greenery at Hebbal, enjoying the view from the top of my house :)
Was looking forward to watch Milana - a kannada movie released after a year, but dropped due to lack of company. Its supposed to be a good movie with excellent music composition by Mano Moorthy.
Anyway this seems to be a plain, simple and beautiful weekend at home and at times serving as my mom's chauffer cum PA. Just trying to enjoy my new weekend role!

Reviews: Rock ON!!!!
Back home for the weekend! Whew! A tiring week and its been a long time we caught up. The whole gang has broken up and no one in Mysore to watch the movie!!!
Well to re-create the MAGIC... me and Aj started off towards Skyline., the oldest multiplex in Karnataka (an old theater with two screens ;)). Probably its been the most economical movie for us this year given the theater we watched it in.
We were skeptical about entering the theater. It was hidden behind the so called majestic sterling. The seats were better and the crowd was decent!!! There was a small queue and Aj managed to get the tickets without any hassles. We had planned to watch this movie finally after finding the right theater where it was being screened after three weeks!
Now to some real movie stuffs!

The movie is well planned and executed at the first look. More of a hit because of our Generation Rock and a little because of Farhan Akthar's voice ;).
The movie stands out because it has all the elements of a good movie, something that we have missed in most of the other releases this year. It starts off with a great song, but slips in the first half. The first half takes you through the past and present of the four members of a rock band, Adi, Joe, Rob n KD, messed up in their current lives. No acting skills are required for these believe me! You have Farhan's wife who feels that their life can be more happier with a reunion of the band. So on and so forth... Looks and Sounds more of a documentary...
The movie starts pacing up in the second half. The band re-unites and decides to go for a concert at a Talent Hunt... Until... one of its band members Rob, is diagnosed with a brain tumor, the show must still go on, with Joe (Arjun Rampal) facing issues with his family not behind him for the re-creation of their band - Magic. Little do they realize that it cannot be the same magic without all four of them!
Finally a mix of emotions when the Magic minus Joe perform a song that Joe dedicates to his wifey - Debby. Thats when she realises Joe's real worth for the band and he reaches on time to give another final performance as the lead guitarist of Magic. Its here where the film starts ROCKING.... with two good back to back songs that make you hum along.
The film has everything that you need - drama, emotion, music and to some extent a good singer in Farhan Akthar :). Hopefully its launched another genre of music - The Indian Rock!

Bachna Ae Hasino... with all expectations of a hyped up movie, I landed up for a first day show in the theater and it did not betray me after all. It was really quite surprising to see a crowd come out on a long weekend morning, in such large numbers. Independence day was no reason to miss this movie!!!
It was decided that the movie is just going to entertain me and my friends for three hours and nothing more. This worked fine and seriously speaking it met the expected goal clearly. There was nothing much to expect.
Ranbir Kapoor, looks like he takes off for the Yash Raj from where Sharukh Khan has left as their chocolate boy into more matured roles. He is cute throughout the movie and has ensure that his talent and capabilities do not go unnoticed. Minisha Lamba has put in a cent per cent performance. Be it Kunar Kapoor adding a little Glamour to her role in the end or not, her performance has been good and keeps you glued to your seat. No comments on Bipasha Basu's performance. She has been the best of the killer's trio. Rather I would like to add a point that her presence has rendered a third of the movie more watchable.
The only major weak link is the film slips in the second half and slides down the same slopes of the Swiss Alps it portrays in the first half. Deepika Padukone lacks screen space in the film and there are no crunchy dialogues or acting scenes to prove her mettle. Forgive her... Probably she got more space in after-shoots on the various channels with her beau. Her role though quite significant appears insignificant until the end of the movie!
Another role worth mentioning is that of the Paintal's. As Raj's (Ranbir) friend Sachin, he provides all the comedy that can be expected out of the film and is quite impressive. Other than its star cast the film boasts of exotic locals which make it worth watching. But yes, if you have high expectation based on the promos, forgive me, I beg to differ. As of now it looks like the movie can become a success pulling the draught hit Yash Raj movies out of their recent flops.
